Accused sentenced for possession of counterfeit goods

The accused was found in possession of 1 242 counterfeit Adidas Tracksuits.

The Barberton Magistrate’s Court convicted Sibusiso Malwane (29) for possession of illicit and counterfeit goods.
The court sentenced him to R30 000 or 48 Months imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years.

Malwane was arrested on May 2 at the N4 Nkomazi Toll Plaza following a disruptive operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Team after information was received about a Toyota Hilux bakkie that was reportedly transporting illicit goods.

The vehicle was stopped and searched resulting in the discovery of 1 242 counterfeit Adidas Tracksuits. Malwane was then arrested on the spot and the goods confiscated.
The vehicle used in the commission of crime has been forfeited to the state.
