Cashbuild donates an ablution block at Mkhuhlu community centre

Savanna Private Game Reserve is proud to partner with Cashbuild to support the continued development of community projects.

One of the national building material retailer, Cashbuild through The Give a Brick Trust donated a new ablution block at Tiyimiselelni Home Based care Centre in Mkhuhlu Mpumalanga.
This will replace the old existing pit latrines on site.
The new flushing toilets and hand-washing stations provide much safer and more sanitary options for the children and staff.

The Give a Brick Trust worked together with Savanna Private Game Reserve in making this donation possible.
Savanna is the primary sponsor for Tiyimiseleni, a community-based organization in Mabarhule village.
The organisation was founded in 2006 by a group of twelve local women in response to the HIV and AIDS disaster.

Tiyimiseleni’s main goal is to improve the health and education of community members in Mabarhule village, with a particular focus on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) and people living with HIV and AIDS.
Currently, Tiyimiseleni supports approximately 300 OVCs affected by HIV. Every day, the women who run the centre prepare a nutritious meal, provide homework help and HIV education and facilitate recreational activities, including cultural dancing and dramas, for all of the children who come to Tiyimiseleni after school. The women trained as health caregivers also visit the homes of each of the children to be sure they are safe, healthy and have an adequate food supply.

The women deliver food parcels, purchase school uniforms for the children and take them to nearby health clinics for check-ups and treatment.
The Head of Community Support Initiatives at Cashbuild, Thembelani Tukwayo said that this donation confirms Cashbuild’s commitment to community upliftment. “I am thrilled that we are able to make this donation. Education and especially early childhood development forms an important building block for human development and it needs our attention as a collective. We can make a difference by working together and it was such a wonderful opportunity to work with Savanna Lodge.”

Community Project Manager, Savanna, Kristen Kelly said “Savanna is proud to partner with Cashbuild to support the continued development of our community projects. The new ablution block we built together is a remarkable achievement, ensuring Mabarhule’s most vulnerable children are able to access basic water and sanitation facilities in dignity. We are inspired by the lived understanding that together, we can achieve so much more.”
