Ngomane promises police visibility at Siyancoba Primary School

The visit comes after the concerns raised by the school principal, Mr James Sigudla at the siblings' funeral, that learners' attendance dropped immediately after the accident.

This morning the MEC for community safety, security, and liaison, Pat Ngomane visited Siyancoba Primary School in Mganduzweni to check on the well-being of the learners following the death of two siblings who were learners at the school last week.

The siblings, aged 5 and 6, went missing on April 23 and were found dead on April 24.

“We are here to see how the learners were coping after last week’s incident,” he says. Ngomane adds that the visit comes after the concerns raised by the school principal, Mr James Sigudla at the siblings’ funeral, that learners’ attendance dropped immediately after the accident.

“We promised to monitor the situation and today we find that the attendance has improved. We will continuously come here and send police to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of the learners and the community,” he said.

He added that a meeting will be called soon to speak to the community about taking full responsibility on protecting the children as a community. No arrests have been made.
