The project, worth R100-million, has been awarded to Tau Pele Construction and is set to start at the beginning of May.
Roadworks will be spread over 11kms and will include the rehabilitation of the existing slow lane and overlaying of the entire carriageway.
The initiative is expected to take 14 months to complete and road users are advised that traffic flow will be impacted. Due to the nature and topography of the area a Stop/Go will be implemented at the Montrose Intersection throughout the duration of the project and lane reductions will also be in effect.

According to TRAC CEO Graham Esterhuysen, the project is in line with TRAC’s concession responsibilities which include maintaining the N4 Toll Route between Tshwane and Maputo to ensure that it remains in pristine condition. “We are committed to offering world-class infrastructure to make our road better, safer and more convenient,” he said.

The initiative will also benefit local communities, through job creation. “Local contractors will be appointed to assist the main contractor. The process is already in motion, with the contractor and TRAC following SANRAL’s 14-point plan for road construction projects,” explained Esterhuysen. “The contractor is just as passionate about local communities as TRAC is and has also committed to offering Tender Training to interested parties.”
TRAC is excited about this project and urges road users to be patient and cautious during the construction phase and to obey all road construction signage when travelling through the area.
