UPDATE: One injured while community demands land at Louw’s Creek

Local police and members of public order police are at the scene to maintain order.

Traffic is at a standstill along the R38 road between KaMashayane to Espedero , the Revolver Creek and Louw’s Creek Treated Timbers due to an ongoing community strike.

A member of the community was injured on his leg when he was allegedly shot by a White farmer who fired shots at the striking residents.
He was rushed to hospital.

Residents of the area blocked the entrance to the two sections of the village with debris this morning in demand of answers over a portion of land which they claim had been sold to a private owner without their knowledge.

“We want the relevant stakeholders, including the mayor and officials from the department of land affairs because they know about this land to explain to us as to what is going on there because this is our land.

We have engaged government officials before and we were told that government bought this land on our behalf. We are surprised about the new owner,” they said.

Spokesperson of Louw’s Creek police station, Const Fikile Lubisi said the local police and members of public order police are at the scene to maintain order.
