Four arrested, one killed over gang rivalry at Elukwatini

Two sharp objects, a panga and a Rambo knife were found with blood stains at the scene.

Four youths aged between 17 and 20 appeared in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s court in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old Ntuthuko Alex Nkosi.

Their arrest came after the police were tipped-off by a concerned member of the public who witnessed the group chasing after Nkosi to a secluded place where they assaulted him until he died.

The witness who was hiding nearby, directed police to the scene. The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood, with multiple open wounds on his face.

The four suspects, Zweli Zulu (18), Jabu Hlophe (18),Sphesihle Gule (20) and a minor who cannot be mentioned due to his age, were arrested between March 9 and March 10.

They appeared in court on March 11.They were remanded in custody with the minor sent to a place of safety. They will appear again in court on March 25 for their bail application.

Elukwatini police spokesperson, Const Peace Mbokane said the reason behind the attacks are as a result of gangsterism territorial rivalry and contention of space. “It is believed that the deceased had tread into the forbidden territory of the rival gangsters group called the ‘Straightens’ and broke the code of limits.

While at the scene of the crime, the police obtained information that assisted them in their investigation and which led to the arrest of the four,” he explained.
