More roadworks planned for N4 this year

If you regularly travel on the N4 between eMalahleni and Maputo, be advised that roadworks will continue for some time and more are planned for the next few months.

MBOMBELA – Regular travellers on the N4 need to prepare themselves for more stop-and-go’s over the next few months.

TRAC recently announced that major upgrades and rehabilitation of the N4 between Belfast and Machadodorp will resume this month.

The project was suspended last year due to community unrest but after negotiations, local communities will also benefit and TRAC was given the go-ahead.

The road will be upgraded to four lanes and blasting will start next month. The roadworks are expected to be completed within three years.

The roadworks between Matola and Maputo are still ongoing but are expected to be completed by July. The road is being expanded to a six-lane carriage way.

The project fell behind schedule due to issues with structures and relocation of dwellings situated on the road reserve. Closures relating to the roadworks will be in place until June, but streetlights are expected to be operational shortly.

Motorists using the Schoemanskloof road will have to add some time to their travels for the next three months. Roadworks are underway and are expected to be completed in May. There is only one stop-and-go in place, which will be lifted during long weekends.

A project to rehabilitate the existing pavement between Montrose and Schagen will start in the next three months. This will result in long-term lane closures and a daytime stop-and-go at the Montrose interchange during off-peak hours.

Work is also planned for the Karino interchange and community participation has started.
