Suspended Badplaas traffic officers resume work with warnings

The officers were placed on suspension and were issued with warnings. The other officer will further undergo a formal disciplinary hearing.

MBOMBELA – The three traffic officers who were placed on precautionary suspension in January are reinstated and were issued with warnings following a confrontation between them and a motorist while they were on duty in Manzana (Badplaas).

According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the officers resumed work on February 20 after the completion of an internal investigation by the Department. The incident was recorded by the motorist and it was widely circulated on social media.

The motorist was reportedly stopped by the traffic officers and became furious at them after they failed to show proof that he was travelling at an excessive speed when they stopped him. They were also not able to arrest the motorist on the spot. Furthermore, he (the motorist) also complained that he went to the nearest police station to open a case against them but did not succeed saying that police did not want to help him open a case.

” The traffic officers were found to have contravened the Public Service code of conduct. Three of the traffic officers were issued with warnings. Only one official will further undergo a formal disciplinary hearing,” reads the statement.
