Teacher to appear in court for locking a Grade One learner in a strong room

The teacher is facing charges of child neglect and kidnapping.

The 30-year-old teacher who allegedly forgot a grade one learner and locked him in a strong room, will appear before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court today.

The teacher from Blackhill Primary School in KwaGuqa township, is facing charges of child neglect and kidnapping.

Her appearance comes after she locked up and forgot the learner in a strong room on February 21, apparently as a form of punishment. The child spent the night in the strong room. The minor’s parents reported him missing at Vosman Police Station.

It was on the following morning that news of what actually happened transpired. The police acted swiftly and arrested the teacher.

The department of education suspended her last Friday.

This morning during an interview on Ligwalagwala FM news, the grandfather of the victim stated that his grandchild was traumatized by the incident. He said that the boy becomes restless and fights during his sleep and had become aggressive towards her younger sister.
