Two separate crashes claim five lives over 24 hours

Five lives were lost yesterday in two separate crashes in Mpumalanga.

The first crash occurred yesterday morning when a midi bus and an articulated truck collided on N17  Warburton and Carolina. The midi bus collided first with the truck and overturned afterwards.

The two victims died at the scene of the crash while the third person died this morning at Carolina Hospital.

13 more passengers are still receiving medical treatment at the hospital where they were transported after the accident.

The midi bus was reportedly transporting the occupants from Bethal to Nhlazatshe near Elukwatini when the crash happened.

On the other hand two sedan drivers were killed yesterday when their vehicles collided in a head on near Mkhonto on N2 road. Only a passenger in one of the vehicles escaped with injuries and is receiving treatment in a hospital.

The cause of the two crashes is not yet known and the investigations are underway.
Mpumalanga Community Safety Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane is sending condolences to the bereaved families.

He has also wished the injured people a swift recovery.

The MEC has reiterated his plea to motorists to use the road with heightened caution to avoid needless injury and death on the road.
