Manamela commits to intervene in solving UMP issues

He is quite confident that the University's academic year will start quite smoothly.

The deputy minister of higher education and Training, Mr Bhuti Manamela, met with the management and student unions at the University of Mpumalanga today.

“Our visit to the institution is essentially to establish as to how ready they are with the registration process and to see if there are any challenges. Our concern emanates from those the university faced last year and as a result of the implementation of the Fee Free higher education policy,” he said.

Manamela stated that he was excited with the report received from the management of the university. “We also received commitments from organised labour and students that they will work around the clock to support the registration processes,” he said.

Manamela also committed himself in bringing all concerned parties together to sort outstanding issues from last year’s protest at the university.

I have committed that I will get a report, people from the department will be asked to intervene and also from the vice chancellor so that we can bring parties together so that we don’t see a repeat of some of the things that happened last year. I am quite confident that this university will open and the academic year will start quite smoothly.”he said.

First-year students will be able to register at the University of Mpumalanga for two weeks from January 28.

Late registrations will also be considered until February 28.

Manamela and his entourage also visited Ehlanzeni TVET College.
