MBOMBELA – The initiative came after the department realised that being licensed to drive has become one of the requirements job seekers must meet in order to be considered for employment.
Therefore, many young people miss out on these opportunities due to not having a driver’s licences despite having the required job-related skills.

This exclusion often leads to young people not being able to participate meaningfully in the economy. It was due to these findings that the DCSSL initiated the project, with a focus on grade 11 and 12 learners. The initiative also allowed for youth who had already completed matric to benefit.
The Youth Capacity Development Programme was launched in July 2016 by the DCSSL and Services SETA, in
order to assist the identified learners from disadvantaged backgrounds across the province to obtain their licences.

Community safety, security and liaison MEC, Pat Ngomane will officially hand the licences over to the beneficiaries during an event at Nutting House Guest Lodge tomorrow morning.
