Five fugitives still wanted

The suspects all faces charges of illegal hunting, trespassing, unlawful possession of firearm.

Mpumalanga police are still looking for five suspects who escaped from lawful custody on January 17.

Samson Mkansi (34), Reckson Mashabane (50), Isaac Ngobeni (34), Given Zitha (33) and Simon Mhlanga (34) were part of 15 awaiting-trial prisoners who were transported from Skukuza to Nelspruit Correctional Services last Friday.

Ten of them escaped. The SAPS immediately implemented the 72-hour activation plan hence five of the 10 escapees were brought to book shortly.

“The escapees allegedly freed themselves at an intersection just before Nelspruit Correctional Services and the manner in which they escaped is yet to be investigated,” said Brig Leonard Hlathi.

The suspects all faces charges of illegal hunting, trespassing, unlawful possession of firearm and will now each face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.
