Family seeks justice for killed son

The Chisale family is seeking justice after a suspect who is on the run for Sizwe Chisale’s death by illegally connected electricity last month.

MBOMBELA – Sizwe was goat herding when he came in contact with a live wire that electrocuted him.

The family from Back Door, Mbonisweni, buried their son on December 22.

According to Ndumiso Ngobeni, the deceased’s brother, the suspect confessed at the police station before
attempting to escape.

The police in KaBokweni told him in the last week of December that an investigating officer would
contact his mother. He said he does not understand how the suspect got away when he was in custody.
“My question to the police is, how could this man escape from them when he was the one who illegally connected
the electricity? An officer was even delayed to come and gather evidence for the scene not to be tampered with.
Had we not taken pictures and ensured people do not tamper with the scene, there would’ve been no evidence left,”
he said.

Ngobeni added that while they were at the scene waiting for police, his uncle saw and chased the suspect. He
managed to catch him and handed him over at the station.

“When my uncle returned from the police station, we proceeded to the residence where the illegal wire was connected. When we arrived at her home, we questioned her about the connection but she claimed that the suspect intimidated her not to say anything. However, her partner contradicted the story and said he was unaware of any connections besides their own,” he pointed out.

KaBokweni’s police spokesperson, Captain Shelly Nsima, said an inquest docket was opened when the deceased died at Themba Hospital. “What happened was that the one property had electricity and the other didn’t. The Mozambican national illegally connected the wire to the pole.

“Chisale was goat herding. He crossed over the wire and came in contact with the live wire. Eskom’s report indicated that the post-mortem stated that the 18-year-old died due to the electrocution. Investigations are still continuing,” she said.
