President grants Provincial Official Funeral for Phil Masinga

The former Bafana Bafana player leaves behind three children and a fiancée‚ Ntombi Nombewu.

Philemon “Chippa” Masinga will be laid at his final resting place in Klerksdorp on Thursday, January 24. Today a memorial service will be held in Johannesburg tomorrow.

The national Sports Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that the request for a provincial official funeral has been sent to president Cyril Ramphosa and it is expected to be granted.

The former Bafana Bafana player leaves behind three children and a fiancée‚ Ntombi Nombewu. He played in the English Premier League for Leeds United, and Italian Serie A for Salernitana and Bari. He also played for Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns with his cousin Bennett Masinga, St. Gallen and Al-Wahda. He represented South Africa in 58 international games, scoring 18 goals. In 2006, he briefly went into football management with PJ Stars.
