Mini bus taxi collides with truck after attempting to overtake

An elderly woman used the window to exit while the vehicle overturned.

A mini bus taxi collided with a petroleum truck from behind after attempting to overtake it
on the N4 near Ngodwana at about 13:00. An eyewitness who was at the scene, Siyabonga Magagula said, “The lanes were about to split into two. The taxi driver saw a Golf GTI on the oncoming lane. He then tried to avoid it but unfortunately smashed the back of the truck.”

He pointed out that an elderly woman exited the vehicle through the window while it overturned and sustained injuries on her head and leg. A child also sustained a head injury.

“Another young woman was trapped in the wreck and the jaws of life were used to save her. She sustained injuries on both her legs. I could literally hear her bones while a friend of mine who is a former medic was assisting at the scene before the emergency service could arrive. Fortunately, no one died,” he explained.

Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s Moeti Mmusi  said he was not aware of the accident, however, he will provide more information on the accident.
