Angry mob sets shops on fire

This comes after the shop owners assaulted one of the employees after accusing him of stealing money from the shop.

KaMhlushwa police are investigating a case of arson after a number of shops were burned at a local shopping complex.

A supermarket and a hardware owned by foreign nationals were set alight by members of the community on Wednesday.

“It is alleged that the employee with two of his colleagues stole an undisclosed amount of cash which they found while cleaning one of the shops. The other two returned the money after being linked to the matter while the third one disappeared from work. He was only found on Wednesday and severely assaulted by the shop management,” said Const Zithulele Mhlongo of KaMhlushwa Police Station.

He adds that the community was angered by this act and end up looting and setting the shops on fire.

“Two other foreign nations were spotted spreading fire to the other parts of the building and police managed to arrest them. They were also found in possession of containers with flammable liquid,” he added.

Mhlongo said some community members were also arrested for possession of stolen property.
