Delegates discuss crime at length

There are syndicates dealing in smuggling of vehicles, stock, illicit goods and contraband among the three countries.

Yesterday, the province hosted a trilateral meeting consisting of the Republics of South Africa and Mozambique as well as the Kingdom of eSwatini to discuss crime related matters affecting these countries.

Other provinces representing South Africa at the meeting were Limpopo, Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal together with representatives from Traffic Inspectorate and SARS’s Customs division.

The three states and provinces mentioned are affected by similar crimes hence the meeting which was a platform to share ideas, information and strategies on how to curb cross border and or related crimes. Based on the presentations given, it came forth that there are syndicates dealing in smuggling vehicles, stock, illicit goods and contraband,” explained Brig Leonard Hlathi.

The delegates agreed that crime is a serious problem in all three states, however, progress has been made with regard to stolen or illicit goods which have been recovered thus far as well as vehicle repatriation.
They further pledged to strengthen relations by intensifying the fight against cross border crimes.
