Casual Day Ambassador passes away

Thuli Matlala had a disability after she was hit by a stray bullet that rendered her paraplegic at the age of 15. 

Casual Day ambassador, Thuli Matlala passed away last Wednesday.

She was a qualified bookkeeper, studied through Access College for the Disabled and also pursued studies in Business Management through the University of South Africa.With the employment challenges faced by many persons with disabilities, a call centre job was an introductory point to open the labour market for Thuli in 2004 when she was employed by Dimension Data.

In 2005 she was employed by Barloworld Limited as a corporate social investment officer where she took up the role of “disability concerns ambassador” for Barloworld Ltd and was also awarded the prestigious Barloworld CEO Award that honours employees who have gone beyond the call of duty.

National Director at the National Council for and Persons with Disabilities that owns Casual Day, Therina Wentzel-DuToit said the entire team is deeply shocked and is coming to terms with this news. We send our deepest condolences to her children, family and friends.

“Thuli was passionate about social development,  She built a successful career in corporate social investment and made an invaluable contribution to Casual Day as an ambassador, as an MC at many Casual Day events, and as a pillar of strength and source of great advice to the whole team,”Wentzel Du-Toit said.

 

She will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 25 in Nkangala.
