Miss Mpumalanga represents SA at World Aids conference

Miss Mpumalanga 2018, Vanessa Hollenbach, is attending the 22nd International Aids Conference, dubbed AIDS 2018, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands which began on Monday until yesterday.

MBOMBELA – The conference, with the theme “Breaking Barriers Building Bridges”, will assist Hollenbach’s efforts in fighting HIV/Aids in this province as the current Zazi – Know Your Strength HIV/Aids ambassador. She’s relentlessly been working on this campaign since she was crowned the provincial queen in April.

On her first day in Amsterdam she held talks with members of the Aids Healthcare Foundation, which operates along the same grass-roots lines as her Zazi campaign.

The International Aids Conference is the largest of its kind on any global health issue in the world. First convened during the peak of the Aids epidemic in 1985, it continues to provide a unique forum for the intersection of science, advocacy and human rights.

Miss Mpumalanga, Vanessa Hollenbach meets up with MEC for health, Ms Sasekani Manzini and Premier Refilwe Mtsweni at the conference.

Each conference is an opportunity to strengthen policies and programmes that ensure an effective response to the epidemic.

AIDS 2018 will provide the 18 000 conference delegates with the latest research, as well as an opportunity to reflect on key issues facing both the HIV sector and the broader global health community.

The conference is hosted by the International Aids Society (IAS), the world’s largest association of HIV professionals, with members from more than 180 countries.
IAS members include researchers, clinicians, policy and programme planners, and public health and community practitioners.

At AIDS 2018 South African researchers and programme leaders will release new resources and announcements demonstrating this country’s strong commitment to bringing an end the disease.
