500 locals receive free eye care service in honour of Madiba

Registration will start at 08.30 behind the Plaza SUPERSPAR near Mbombela taxi Rank.

BOMBELA – More than 500 people older than 40 years will today receive free eye-care services and spectacles as part of commemorating Nelson Mandela’s centenary.

The free services will be courtesy of the Nelspruit Lions Club, together with the South African Medical Association (SAMA).

“This project aims to bring health services to the doorstep for people above the age of 40. Registration will start at 08.30 behind the Plaza SUPERSPAR.

Six optometrists, two doctors and 20 volunteers from the Lions Club, SAMA and Council for Blind will screen the patients and conduct a free blood sugar and blood tests,” explained Dr Abraham Varghese, the president SA Medical Association Lowveld. He added that meals will be provided to attendants.

Other businesses including Nelspruit Spaza and Sanlam are also sponsors of the project.
