A member of the EFF, Mr Sam Zandamela from Emalahleni, was sworn in as a member of the Mpumalanga Legislature this morning.
“This is according to the Electoral Act of 1998. The vacancy was created as a result of loss of membership by Mr Alfred Skhosana. On instruction from the relevant party, which is the EFF, Mr Sam Zandamela is to be sworn in as a member of Mpumalanga Legislature with effect from July 11, 2018,” explained Mr SPD Skhosana.
“I, Sam Zandamela, swear that I will be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and will obey, respect and uphold the Constitution and all other laws of the Republic. I solemnly promise to perform my functions as a member of the legislature of Mpumalanga to the best of my ability. So help me God,” said Zandamela while taking the oath.

Zandamela has belonged to the EFF from its formation in 2013. He has been serving as a councillor at Emalahleleni Local Municipality.
His swearing in comes after the dismissal of the former EFF member of legislature, Mr Alfred Sikhosana, who was fired from the party after he allegedly dodged paying his levy for two years.
“He was suspended for three years and his three-year sentence was suspended with conditions that he must not commit similar offences again. Within that period he was found to be underperforming in terms of doing the organizational work, which is part of his contract with the organization.
He also contravened his hearing condition, as he went to the media and attacked national leadership. Again, he didn’t pay levy and was found guilty by the NDC. He appealed the matter to the NDC ‘A’, and the NDC ‘A’dismissed his appeal. That why it look so long because we made sure we exhausted all the internal processes. He is no longer a member of the EFF nor a member of legislature. Hence we bring in Honourable Sam Zandamela, who was duly voted for by the PCT to come and represent the party,” said Collen Sedibe, EFF provincial leader.
In response to media inquiry, Zandamela said he is honoured and humbled by the opportunity given to him to represent his organization in the legislature. “I will serve my organisation to the best of my ability,” he concludes.
