Whirlwind leaves guests in the open at a traditional ceremony

The strong strange wind blew off the tent where spectators were watching the proceedings of the ceremony.

An unexpected whirlwind left guests of the grand opening of Mthayiza palace without any shade on Saturday.

This historical moment happened within a twinkle of an eye at the moment when Prince Hlabezulu Khumalo from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, introduced the Crown Prince, Bulelani Collen Lobengula Khumalo who is set to take over the thrown left by the late Mzilikazi Khumalo 124 years ago.

While the prince was on his feet, the strong strange wind blew off the tent where spectators were watching the proceedings , two tents where traditional leaders and other very important guests were seated were not affected.

No one was injured.

“This wind we saw today is a sign that indeed the Crown Prince is the rightful chief to take over the throne in Zimbabwe and has been welcomed by the ancestors even on this occasion,” said Mthayiza II, Musa Khumalo.

The day was also marked by traditional dance, prayers and the unveiling of Mthayiza Khumalo’s monument .
