Joseph Mashaba, founder of the health and fitness association, said everything was going well for the first 17 km walk this morning. “The walkers are currently on the streets of Germiston and enjoying hoots and cheers from well-wishers,” he said.

Upon completion of 17 km, they will take a rest and start walking again from 15:00 before driving to where they will sleep in Emalahleni.

“We will repeatedly follow the same procedure throughout the walk. We will be spending the night at Waterval Boven before proceeding to Mbombela on the 11th day,” he said.

The walkers have also identified an old age home and orphanage centre to assist during their adventure in Emalahleni.
