Gunman robs Sheet Street in broad daylight

He ordered cash from the cashiers.

Shoppers were stunned at White River Square yesterday when an unknown man robbed Sheet Streets at broad day light.

A shopper who was stepping out of one of the shops said: “I was terrified when I left the shop where I was buying groceries to learn that there was hostage drama at Sheet Street which is right in front of the police station. Luckily no one was injured ,but we were really petrified,” she said.

According to police, a male suspect entered the shop around 12:57 went straight to the cash desk and pointed two cashiers with a firearm.

He ordered them to give him the cash. The man further instructed the cashiers to go with him to the cash office where he instructed them to open the safe and loaded money into his backpack.

“He tied both employees with cables and fled the scene,” said Sgt Cynthia Mbokodo, spokesperson of White River police.
