Medical doctor remanded in custody for murder

The suspect went to his car, took a sharp object and stabbed the victim on the upper body.

NELSPRUIT –  A 32-year-old medical practitioner working at the Tintswalo hospital was remanded in custody by the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

He appeared facing a murder charge.

He was remanded in custody following an incident that took place at the residential quarters of the hospital.

According to information at police disposal on Sunday, 13 May 2018 at around 04:00, the suspect, Dr Surprise Mokoena went to his ex-girlfriend’s house who is a dietician. He found her with a man and an argument ensued.

It is reported that the suspect then went to his car, took a sharp object and chased the duo out of the house, in the process stabbed the victim on the upper body, however, the victim managed to drive to his house at Matsikitsane Trust.

Upon arrival at his house, he was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

The matter was reported to the police and the suspect could not be found up until he handed himself to the police on Wednesday.

Mokoena was remanded in custody and he will appear in the same court next week for a formal bail application.
