Two appears for defrauding education department of R6m

More charges including 37 counts of fraud, theft and money laundering will be added to them.

Two suspects accused of swindling the Department of Education of R6 million appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Thursday.

Mr Nkosinathi Mbombi (45) and Ms Elizabeth Zitha (60) allegedly fooled the department during their bogus school feeding scheme. It is alleged that in 2011 the accused submitted several fraudulent invoices to the department for services which were never rendered in the national school nutritional programme

Capt Dineo Sekgotodi Hawks provincial spokesperson said following a lengthy investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Investigation Unit, the two were served with summons to appear in court on March 22.

The two are out on warning with strict conditions. They are expected to reappear in court on June 4. Sekgotodi said more charges, including 37 counts of fraud, theft and money laundering will be added.
