Two appear for assaulting farm dwellers

They were remanded in custody and will appear again in the same court on May 7 for their bail applications.

Two men appeared in the Machadodorp Regional Court on Wednesday in connection with attempted murder, common assault and a count of pointing a firearm.

The incidents happened at Hartesbees Burgenland Farm near Belfast on April 24.

According to provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Ms Monica Nyuswa the arrest of the suspects came after two victims aged 18 and 32 were assaulted with a hammer at the farm.

They were later hospitalised for their injuries.

Nyuswa added that both victims are employed by one of the suspects.

She further alleged that two other farm dwellers aged 60 and 32 years were also assaulted by the suspects on the same day on the farm.
