ANC in Mpumalanga salutes workers

Today the ANC in Mpumalanga stands up to salute all the workers of this country not only, because they form part of the most important motive force of the national democratic revolution, but because workers are the creators of wealth and drivers of economic growth and development.

The ruling party calls on all South Africans, especially workers to use the day to reflect on the evolution of the South African labour regime and progress registered since the introduction of the basic conditions of employment, regulations on collective bargaining and the right to strike.

Workers are urged to reflect and engage on issues such as the democratisation of the work-place, an end to discrimination and all initiatives will help to improve labour relations and as a result produce economic growth and development.

“We call upon our ally the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) to work hard to unite all workers in South Africa, because it is only united workers which will attend and resolve the plight of the unorganised workers, the engendered and racialized wage gap in South Africa, the casualization of workers, the sexually harassment of female workers on the shop-floor, the scandalously low wages paid by some sectors, and the many other challenges confronting workers in South Africa,” reads a statement.
