Office of the Premier workers down tools

We are overworked and the premier’s office must address the issue.

Local employees from the Office of the Premier have downed tools since Monday morning.

Mr Didi Nkosi from the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union said the staff are overworked and the premier’s office must address the issue.

“Workers are overworked because of the moratorium policy that was introduced in 2013. It stipulates that if an employee dies or resigns, they should not be replaced, which has resulted in workers having a great deal of extra responsibilities.
“We have raised our concerns several times. however, they still have not been addressed.

During a meeting we were told that they will evaluate the work that every worker does and that we will be compensated according to our responsibilities.

The evaluation included moving employees to a new levels that match their duties. We will not perform our duties until our demands are met and we plan to come to work every day,” he explained.

During the demonstration, the SAPS was called. “We were addressed by the provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, and he told us to leave the premises in less than 10 minutes. We had to leave, but we will continue tomorrow,” said Nkosi.
