Emergency vehicles on high alert during Easters

MEC for Health, Gillion Mashego wants to assure people of the province and those who will be travelling to the province that all facilities and EMS will be fully functional during the Easter holidays.

Department of Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will be on high alert to provide health emergency medical services during the Easter weekend.

The Easter weekend is usually ends with road crashes caused by many factors such as driving long distances without getting enough rest, driving under the influence of alcohol and others.

MEC for Health, Mr Gillion Mashego said the emergency vehicles will be placed at strategic points on major routes across the province. “This will be to ensure quick response to major accidents and to raise awareness among road users that these services are just a phone call away when needed.

The priority should be to prevent accidents and together with the Department of Community Safety and Liaison we will be engaged in promoting safety and health tips for the road users. We know that the number of accidents and cases of violence increase significantly during these times, as a result, a large number of people die or get seriously injured while others are left with temporary and permanent disabilities, thereby, burdening our healthcare system,” he said.

In case of emergencies,  the public can call the toll free Telkom number: 10177 or 112.
