Residents blockade R538 demanding service delivery

Members of the community, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, said they had been struggling to get water for years.

This morning angry residents of Mahushu and surrounding villages blocked the R538 from Swalala to Mahushu with burning tryes, stones and debris.
They demand drinking water for the area.

As a result of the strike no one can access Hazyview and the Kruger National Park.

They also refused to listen to the local councillor and demanded that someone more superior than him address them and state when they will receive water from their pipes.

Tryes were burned next to the Buscor depot, closing the road off from any bus movement in the area hence hundreds of workers including teachers and learners could not go to school or work.

Capt Naniki Nonyane, spokesperson from Masoyi police, said no criminal activities had been reported so far. “We haven’t seen any criminal activity yet, police are there to maintain order,” Nonyane said.
