Mpumalanga launches the 2nd Mbombela jazz festival
The Mbombela Jazz Festival has contributed towards increasing the number of the domestic tourists to the province as it attracts visitors from Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland.
MBOMBELA – The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) launched the 2nd Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival on Tuesday.
The launch took place at Mbombela Holiday Resort. The festival is scheduled to take place in September during Tourism Month.

As part of the MTPA’s events strategy, MTPA partnered with Harmocept Holdings in 2017 to host the Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival as part of promoting Mpumalanga through a series of events lined up during the month of September.
“Events play a significant role in creating awareness about any tourism destination. There are people who travel not only for leisure purposes or for relaxation but for entertainment as well. Our intention with this launch today is to afford the media and our stakeholders an opportunity to get first-hand information on the programme of events and the lineup of artists scheduled to perform at this year’s event in September”, said Mrs Nomaswazi Shabangu-Mndawe, Deputy Chairperson of MTPA.

“September is Tourism Month and this event forms part of a series of awareness campaigns and events that have been scheduled to celebrate tourism month in the province”, explained Mr Sikhumbuzo Kholwane, MEC for Economic Development and Tourism.

“The 2nd Mbombela Jazz Festival promises to be bigger and better than the first one in 2017. The 2018 Mbombela Jazz Festival calendar of activities will include pre and post events, said Kholwane”.
“MTPA’s aim is to create awareness on the impact of tourism in our daily lives. This launch is the first of the events that will be used as a platform to showcase the tourism offerings in the province through events”, concluded Shabangu-Mndawe.
This year’s festival promises to serenade audiences from various parts of the country especially those from our neighbouring countries like Mozambique and Swaziland.
The event will also include the following activities:
• Triland Soccer Challenge to include teams from Swaziland and Mozambique on 21 July 2018 at Mbombela Stadium.
• Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture in partnership with the University of Mpumalanga to be held on 06 September 2018.
•Mbombela Jazz Festival Charity Golf day at Matumi Golf Course on 07 September 2018. The golf day will be used to collect school shoes to be donated to needy school children.
• The main festival will be held on 08 September 2018 at Mbombela Stadium.
•Events such as this require that MTPA partners with the district and local municipalities as well as local businesses and tourism industry stakeholders in ensuring that we all work together in promoting domestic tourism in Mpumalanga
