Police shoot-out with gang injures two

The police are currently in the process of establishing information that may lead to the arrest of the other gang members who fled from the scene.

MASOYI – When Net Star officials and White River Flying Squad pounced on car theft suspects in Masoyi yesterday, a shoot- ensued between them and 20 armed suspects.

One Net Star official as well as one suspect were wounded in the crossfire. When the dust settled, at which the rest of the suspects had already run in different directions into the bushes dressed in blue overalls disguised as contract employees, police also found a Toyota Quantum Kombi which was not reported as stolen and a white BMW X4 suspected to have been stolen in Gauteng as well.

The police further discovered a large quantity of explosives, handgloves, a bulletproof vest, a firearm as well as other items which are believed to be usable in the commission of crime.

According to a preliminary probe, the suspects were intercepted while on their way to committing a Cash In Transit robbery and their plan was foiled by the integrated approach of the police and Net Star members.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has applauded the collective effort of the stakeholders and also wishes the member who was injured during the shootout a speedy recovery.
