BREAKING NEWS: Two Mozambicans nabbed for counterfeit goods

Mpumalanga Traffic police officers arrested two Mozambican Nationals on the N4 Road near Gorge on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the vehicle who is a 36-year-old male was driving at 142 km/h on a 100 km/h zone. The vehicle was travelling from the direction of Mozambique to Gauteng Province.

When the traffic officers stopped the speeding vehicle, they discovered counterfeit goods in a form of sneakers. The passenger who is a female also did not have travel documents.

According to a statement from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane has commended the traffic officers for arresting the two suspects.  “The MEC raised concerns also on how did the two occupants managed to cross the Lebombo Port of Entry with the illegal goods and the other one without travel documents without being caught.”

“These are the type of acts that continue to cripple the economy of the country and undermine the integrity of our Ports of Entry. These two have completely broken the law; justice must take its course so as to give a lesson to others that our country is not a banana republic,” said Ngomane.

He added that speeding can never be accepted because many lives are lost and the government is spending a lot of money on road safety.

The two suspects are currently at the Nelspruit Police Station and will appear at the Nelspruit Magistrate Court for Speeding and possession of counterfeit goods.
