ATM bombers suspects denied bail

Two ATM’s were allegedly blown with explosives and an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

The suspects arrested for bombing an ATM at the Standard Bank branch in Bushbuckridge were denied bail on Friday.

They are facing charges of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of suspected stolen property and murder.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said that Skhumbuzo Welcome Gama (38), Nkosinathi Adelaide Paul Mtshali (37), and Themba Enerst Masimola (20) were arrested on Wednesday, March 7 in Hazyview.

“Police and security responded to the scene, resulting in a shootout. The suspects managed to get away, leaving behind an injured security guard who later succumbed to his injuries. A tracing operation resulted in their arrest. They were found in possession of cash believed to have been stolen from the scene. Further investigation led to the recovery of two vehicles which were used,” she explained.

“The case has been postponed to Thursday, March 15 pending further investigations. A manhunt for their accomplices has been launched, “she said.
