Lunch box ideas to make during Listeriosis outbreak

Some parents raised their concern on social media alleging that the outbreak affects the choice of food they give their children for lunch.

Parents are worried about what to put in their children’s lunch bags during the outbreak of Listeriosis.

This follows after the minister of health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, announced that polony and products from an Enterprise Foods factory in Polokwane is the source of the largest outbreak of listeria.

According to reports, the outbreak infected almost 1 000 people and caused about 180 deaths. Some parents raised their concern on social media alleging that the outbreak affects the choice of food they give their children for lunch.

According to the department of health, Listeriosis is a serious treatable and preventable disease caused by the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes and is widely distributed in nature and can be found in soil, water and vegetation.
