85 UMP students treated for stomach bug at Robs

The university is waiting for results of the cause of the students stomach pains from the hospital so that proper precautions may be taken.

A total of 85 students from the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) were on Wednesday rushed to Rob Ferreira Hospital after eating an alleged contaminated food at the Campus.

The students had on numerous times complained of being served poor quality food to this publication. The fear of their own lives had been worsened by the stomach bug which broke out on Wednesday

“After the outbreak of the listeria disease these past few days, students have been experiencing health problems which are believed to be caused by the food they consume,” said one of the students. He adds that two buses were arranged by the university to ferry students to local hospitals on Wednesday.

Mr Themba Manana, spokesperson of the university confirmed that 85 students were rushed to hospital for treatment on Wednesday.

“The students complained of stomach bug and were rushed to Rob Ferreira hospital where they were treated and discharged

.

They are all at the university as we speak. We are still waiting for results of the cause of their stomach pains from the hospital so that we may take proper precautions,” he said.
