15 vehicles impounded in operation

The joint operation yielded positive outcomes with 17 summonses issued on the spot for various road violations which included operating without valid documentation, overloading as well as vehicles found to be unroadworthy.

More than 15 vehicles were impounded, while one scholar transport bus had its services discontinued after it was found to be unroadworthy during an Inter-Provincial joint operation conducted on the N4 Toll Road between Karino and Mbombela yesterday morning.

The operation was a collaborative effort between law enforcement officers from six provinces, namely; KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Free State, Limpopo, Eastern Cape as well as Gauteng.
These provinces share borders and the joint operation was also aimed at curbing inter-provincial crimes along these corridors. Furthermore, the inter-provincial enforcement collaborations between these provinces are part of government’s efforts to deal with moving violations across the six provinces.

With the Easter holidays approaching, the provinces will intensify the joint law enforcement operations as they endeavour to reduce road crashes that usually characterize the holidays.

Yesterday’s operation was part of the ongoing two-day meeting hosted in Mbombela with representatives coming from the involved provinces and it is scheduled to end today. The joint meetings are every two months in various provinces and are aimed at maximising impact on crime prevention and reducing road crashes across then six provinces.
