Province targets 2million voters for next year elections

All 22 612 voting stations in the country including the province’s 1 745 voting stations will be opened from 08:00 to 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Mpumalanga targets to reach at least 2 million voters in the 2019 elections.

Sibusiso Nkosi the provincial IEC spokesperson indicates that the province had 4,4 million people.

He calls on all eligible voters, those who had turned 18 years and above to visit their nearest voting stations this weekend to update their voters roll.

This is an opportunity to ensure that voters are registered in the correct voting district segments.

“This call forms part of the national IEC campaign to assist new voters to register and allow registered voters to re-register in their correct voting district,” said Nkosi

The elections are expected to be held between May and August 2019.

Registered voters can also SMS their ID number to 32810 to receive an SMS containing the address of their current voting station (charged at R1).

They can also check and update their details online by visiting www.elections.org.za
