Rapist sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment

The police tried to trace the accused but did not succeed up until another incident occurred.

Peter Zerah Mohlala was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment by the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court for raping and robbing a 28-year-old woman.

The court heard that on June 23, 2013, Mohlala approached the woman and her friend while they were entering their house in KwaMhlanga.

He forced the victims to a nearby bush at gunpoint where he raped one of the women, robbed them of their cellphones, and then fled the scene.

The police tried to trace the accused but did not succeed up until another incident occurred whereby he and his friend, Simon Rahlaba (31), gained entry through a window into a house in Pieterskraal, Siyabuswa, around July 2017.

Mohlala raped the woman at gunpoint and proceeded to steal items before fleeing.

A manhunt was launched which led to the arrest of Rahlaba, who then provided information on Mohlala’s whereabouts, which culminated in his arrest.
