Young man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape
Given Senzo Lekhuleni (22) was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Nelspruit Regional Court on Monday for rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
In April 2016, Lekhuleni approached a 40-year-old woman from behind, grabbed her ponytail, pushed her to the bushes and raped her at knifepoint.
“The accused was arrested same day of the incident after the victim reported the matter to the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and to White River Police station,” said provincial National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Monica Nyuswa.
Prosecutor Magda Marais revealed medical reports and DNA evidence which linked to Lukheleni. A victim impact statement was compiled and handed to the court.
Handing down the sentence, regional magistrate, Vanessa Joubert told the court that Lukheleni is a danger to society and showed no remorse for his actions.
