Matsafeni protest enters day two

Motorists had to turn and could not enter Matsafeni

The roads to  Matsafeni (ward 14) are closed due to a protest over alleged unfair employment practices in projects taking place in the area.

On Tuesday morning the N4 leading to Matsafeni was barricaded with debris and a truck was burned while the community demanded answers from the ANC.

The problem started last week, when a group of people from Ward 19 (KaNyamazane) invaded Matsafeni demanding to be employed in projects taking place in the ward.

The group disrupted work at the Mpumalanga Fresh Produce Market last week where they demanded employment.

“On their arrival at the site they used force to enter the gate. They then proceeded inside and demanded to see the management.
“After that they came to us and forced us to stop working. When they were done they left,” said Madrick Mabuza, one of the workers at Mpumalanga Fresh Produce Market.
