New Eskom board expected to revive country’s economy

Ramaphosa said in a statement released by the Office of the Presidency that the new Board was part of his intervention to restore Eskom as an important contributor to the economy.

The new Eskom Board, headed by Telkom Board chairperson Mr Jabu Mabuza as chairperson has been welcomed by many.

The Board was announced on Saturday by the deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa who is less than a month at the helm of the ruling party, ANC. He announced the new Board in an attempt to restore confidence in the parastatal, improve its financial position and restore its operational performance.

Part of the statement reads as follows: “Eskom is critical to the South African economy. As a key enabler of economic growth and social transformation, any further deterioration of Eskom’s financial and operational conditions could have a severe impact on the country.”

During his visit in Mbombela in November last year on the day of the Red October campaign, Ramaphosa mentioned in his speech that there is a great need of rebuilding the country’s economic state.
