Rape suspect denied bail

The suspect is facing a number of chargesthat include among others, 31 rapes, a number of house robberies, as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license.

NELSPRUIT – A suspect was denied bail by the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The suspect is facing a number of chargesthat include among others, 31 rapes, a number of house robberies, as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license.

The arrest of the suspect came after he was sought by members of the SAPS in Tonga, having been linked through DNA.

He, however, managed to evade arrest for some time before being cornered and arrested on 20 August 2017, with the assistance of the community.

His appearance at the same court dates back to 25 September 2017 and has since been in custody for further investigation, hence he will reappear at the same court on 15 March 2018.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma commended all the dedicated members for the arrest and investigation that linked all the unsolved cases to the villain. He urged the members to soldier on ensuring that the suspect gets a sentence that is befitting to his deeds.

General Zuma further appreciated the invaluable assistance offered by the community members through volunteering information.
