It is a new academic year at schools. Learning and teaching is expected to begin right away as the curriculum is set for the year.
There were mixed emotions as teachers welcomed grade one learners on their first day of school today. Some learners arrived at school eager to meet their new teacher and classmates. For some learners it was not easy to let go of their parents.

MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Sasekani Manzini led a delegation of government officials during the School Reopening Programme at Cottandale in Bushbuckridge which intends to ensure that learners and teachers get a smooth start. She also donated a couple of items including school uniforms and sanitary towels to learners at Mhlangana Secondary School.
African National Congress Chief Whip in the Provincial Legislature Johan Mkhatshwa visited DD Mabuza Comprehensive School in Nkomazi, Block A this morning. Mkhatshwa encouraged the learners to start the year on a positive by working hard by achieving excellent result at the end of the year. He also donated sanitary towels.
