Summer trends 2017/18

What to wear and what not to wear this summer.

Lover of fashion and a thriving queen in the making, Sandile Maluleke shares some tips on what is a must this summer and what you rather should set aside.

Sandile works for Lowveld Media as a layout artist and fashion stylist for the Get it magazine.
She fell in love with fashion way back, when she raided her grandmother (JJ’s) closet and discovered a gold mine – her vintage clothing.
“I learnt how to mix and match vintage clothes with something modern, to create a modern chic look when it comes to my fashion sense. I am inspired by fashion icons like Kwena Baloyi, Lulama Wolf, Noku Mashaba, Mama Cax (Née Cacsmy Brutus) to name a few.”

How do stylists decide what is trending
Whether we like it or not, someone out there decides what is trending when it comes to fashion. In this case top design houses, fashion forecasters and fashion bloggers play an important role when deciding what the latest craze is. Please always keep in mind, not everything that is trending in fashion will work for all of us. So choose wisely when deciding what to try out.

Must have this summer
• Moonbags are a huge thing now. It was normally used by tourists, but now they have become a fashion must-have. They will come in handy when you are going on holiday and don’t want to carry your large handbag everywhere.

• It’s summer and not having a cut-out shoulder dress or top is simply a crime. You can also try a cold-shoulder top. Any lady can rock these looks.
• Print dresses. It will not hurt to have one of these in your closet this summer.

• A pop of yellow. The colour yellow is not for everyone but if you are brave, you can rock something bright – it could be a summer scarf or any accessory to brighten up the outfit.

• Swimwear. The one-piece cut-out swimsuit is a must this season and why not pair it with some aviator sunglasses. Please note: comfort is key when choosing swimwear.

What not to wear this summer
• Oh, how we love shoelace and lace chokers. Let’s give it a break. Instead try chokers with interesting details, and layering these can make a statement.
• Destroyed-look T-shirts. It’s time to let them go. It was rebellious and we loved it, but let’s move on.  Instead of a destroyed-look T-shirt, you can try the graphic-T trend. It adds a different vibe to an outfit.
