Police search for 10 cash-in-transit heist suspects
Police are looking for a daring gang of about 10 men who carried out a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist along the road leading to the University of Mpumalanga in Mbombela at about 17:30 on Thursday.
According to the police, the suspects were travelling in three BMWs. One of the vehicles rammed into the CIT van, causing it to come to a halt.
The suspects blasted the safe open, robbed the guards of an undisclosed amount of money and set the vehicle they had used to ram into the CIT vehicle alight. They then fleed the scene in two white BMWs, an X5 and a 7-series. The guards were unharmed.
Police have now launched a manhunt for the suspects and request that anyone who may have information to contact Brigadier Obed Ngwenya on 082 565 6417 or SAPS crime stop on 0860 010 111.
