HCI investigates false mining job scams

“It is clearly a scam, which aims to take money from unemployed, hopeful individuals by falsely promising employment,” said Pieter Terblanche, Chief Operating Officer for HCI Coal.

HCI Coal Proprietary Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited (HCI), has launched an investigation into online advertisements offering fraudulent job opportunities and learnership programmes on behalf of the company.
The South African Police Service branch in Nkangala has told HCI Coal that, following complaints by several community members, an investigation has found that the fraudulent advertiser has been targeting mining companies and their host communities for the past two years.

“Our human resources department only advertises employment and other opportunities within local municipalities and community forums, at shopping centres, in local newspapers and on our official website,” Terblanche pointed out.

HCI Coal’s advertisements also appear with the official company logo and branding. Terblanche said any other advertisements should be ignored as they are fraudulent.
