Emerging designers in line to win lucrative prizes

This will help you showcase your creative skills and you stand a chance to walk away with a cash prize of R100 000, vouchers to purchase material and state-of-the-art machinery.

MBOMBELA – Are you a hardworking, creative, community-based fashion designer who has been yearning to design for well-known personalities in your community?
If you answered yes, the Crowning Miss Mpumalanga Fashion Designers Extravaganza is for you. It will help you showcase your creative skills and you stand a chance to walk away with a cash prize of R100 000, vouchers to purchase material and state-of-the-art machinery. The other contestants will also receive consolation prizes which include the vouchers and sewing machines.

Mzimari Productions, the organisers of the fashion show and the beauty pageant that has produced seven Miss Mpumalanga queens from 2011, through its CEO Ms Gugu Nyarenda, has created this opportunity in partnership with the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) to develop fashion designers at grass-roots level.
“We are targeting that designer who is holed up in your rural areas, villages, townships and has been yearning to reach the limelight. This competition brings forth this worthwhile opportunity to dress up a popular figure in society including the soon-to-be-crowned Miss Mpumalanga 2018 for her entire reign.

“The winner will study the queen’s hectic itinerary and produce exquisite designs for her. As an added bonus, the finalists will also showcase their creative designs during the crowning of Miss Mpumalanga 2018 to be held early next year,” explained Nyarenda.
Auditions will be held to search for the most deserving and talented fashion designers at grass-roots level. The finale, featuring 10 finalists, will be hosted at the prestigious Emnotweni during an exclusive cheese and cocktail ceremony by invite only.

“Invitations will go out to stakeholders that will play a meaningful role in the upliftment of these fashion designers who will be the main attraction on the night. Don’t call us, we’ll call you. The most important thing here is that we want to make a difference in these designers’ lives for the better.

“At Mzimari Productions we’ve always stood by our motto ‘If it’s not the best, it’s not us’. We’ve embarked on this journey of discovery and we are determined to reach another milestone in producing another gem of a fashion designer from humble beginnings to the limelight,” concluded Nyarenda.

The fashion show is on December 9 at the Dream South Lounge from 19:00. For more information for designers contact Maswazi Maphanga on 079 322 4724.
